Wrapping for Spiritual Protection and Blessing

Wrapping is a sacred ritual and blessing that can spiritually protect us keeping negative energy out and light energy within us .

What do I mean by light energy ? Light energy is the G-d force within us , spirit within , prana , chi , life essence or vital force or any of the names you wish to call the living breath and spirit within us . This will be named according to the spiritual path or faith that you follow . Without it we are inanimate beings .

All of us have vital life force energy within us if we are alive ! Wrapping protects our spiritual energy . How do I know this ?

I know this subjectively by my own experience and observation of wrapping and by the natural laws of the universe . Biological science also supports wrapping in physiologically aiding clarity of mind .

We are energetic beings . We are made of energy / atoms vibrating at different speeds and frequencies which gives everything we can physically see with our eyes the appearance of being solid . A solid object like a table is just a collection of densely packed atoms in a particular formation . This science is not at odds with the spiritual world . In the bible , psalm 139 even says that we are ” fearfully and wonderfully made ” .

Any baby can show you the miracle that we are .

As well as the divine energies that are contained within us we are also surrounded by the energies outside of us that do not form a part of us and are not part of our being . Every day we step outside our front door we step into what I call ” energy soup ” . Energy soup has everything you can imagine thrown into it . For example , negativity , bad moods of other people , environmental energies and pollution , tension and stress , traffic , crowds and so on .

Let’s use a specific example . When you travel by tube or public transport , you step into the energy field of everyone on that tube , the energy of what they are thinking and feeling , the kind of day they are having , the beliefs they hold and so on . Most of us can recognise if the people around us are angry , tense , irritable or happy , kind and helpful . We read people’s behaviour , facial expressions and energy every day . Energy soup can have lots of positives also . However this will depend on where you are and who you are with . Some people give us good vibes and we feel uplifted around them and conversely some people may leave us feeling drained , depleted and burned out .

Wrapping can spiritually protect us from situations , people and environments that are consistently negative / toxic if we come into contact with them . Mostly it is good to reduce your exposure to this where possible .

Why is wrapping the head in particular important ? In many spiritual traditions the head is our crown physically and metaphorically . It is the physical part of our body closest to heaven . In Eastern philosophy , the crown chakra , an energy centre located just above the top of your head is the gateway to the universe and connection to the divine . It is where our communication with the divine takes places and rises upward . Our inner thought life takes place in our head , our mental processing and consciousness is within the mind and our thought life . We can experience death when our heart stops beating , but we can also experience brain death , so the head of the body , our computing centre , is spiritually important .

In Eastern tradition , the chakras are energy centres within the body which correspond to and corelate with the nervous system . In China , many doctors will be dual trained in eastern and western medicine and the body is seen as a holistic integrated whole so the artificial divisions separating spirituality and health are not viewed separately .

In ancient paintings and murals for hundreds of years pictures of the great sages such as Jesus , Buddha , the saints and others show them painted with a glow or light around the head / crown . This is the light / aura / life force energy of a pure being . As a chakra colour it is portrayed as white or golden light which are colours of a high vibrational force . Energy fields / auras around a person can be expansive or shrinking . We say that when some people enter a room they ” Light up the room ” or are ” larger than life ” . Some people command our attention by the energy they carry . Also we can feel the impact of a negative person speaking toxic words or full of hate speech . Words can feel like a physical assault like arrows or darts and be equally damaging to the recipient .

Wrapping the head provides a shield of protection to the wearer .

So how does wrapping work on a spiritual level ?

I will speak from my own experience here and I recognise that this is purely my own experience and many people will have other experiences , thoughts and beliefs on head wrapping . As always , a wrap is so much more than a wrap and I can only touch on a few things here !!

When I wrap my hair / head , I wrap with mindfulness and spiritual intention . It is a ritual part of my day and a sacred time where I honour my creator and myself as a sacred being and child of the universe . My wrapping is an outward expression of my inner faith and belief and a statement to the outside world that I belong to my creator . It is a spiritual shield supported by my faith life :

” Oh G-d the Lord , the strength of my salvation , thou hast covered my head in the day of battle ” ( from Psalm 140 , vs 7 , KJV )

” Bless the Lord , O my soul . O Lord my G-d thou are very great ; thou art clothed with honour and majesty who coverest thyself with LIGHT as with a GARMENT ” ( from Psalm 104 vs 1-2 , KJV )

There are many verses I could quote that speak to my wrapping practice in both the old and new testaments of the Christian bible .

With each wrap of cloth , I bind up and preserve my energy . It is a kind of meditation also , as my mind and inner thought life are at peace , bound and protected and held securely , firmly and gently in a spiritually loving head hug . Walking through life can be April sunshine or muddy quicksand . Energetically speaking , wrapping provides sun protection in summer and wellingtons for the mud . It is a cloak of divinity and a symbolic of my relationship to G-d . It reminds me to be mindful of my speech , my thought and my actions towards other people . It helps me to generate positivity from within towards others as well as to myself .

Leaving my home with my head uncovered spiritually feels to me like going out in a winter blizzard in a bikini . I like to wrap my head most of the time .

Even scientifically and biologically wrapping improves your concentration and focus . The reason for this is that wrapping will protect your head and keep heat in . Heat encourages the blood vessels in the brain to open which improves circulation , blood flow and hence clarity of thought / brain development . Premature babies wear hats to keep warm . Yogi’s cover their head to improve their focus as blood flow / circulation improves .

The skull contains 22 bones , or 29 if you include the hyoid bone and bones of the middle ear . These bones in the skull all move slightly throughout the day . Wrapping keeps the bones of the skull secure and in place applying pressure to pressure points that can promote wellbeing and relaxation so we are physically and mentally calmer and more relaxed to deal with stress around us and more focused due to better blood flow .

Some people choose to wrap their hair / head for particular situations and events such as the following where wrapping helps them to feel protected and may be spiritually recommended :

• When going for a job interview / giving a presentation or any performance type situation / singing on stage etc
• Driving test
• Working in a public service where you are surrounded by energy soup – healthcare , police , fire service , social work , teaching and so on
• Dealing with difficult and toxic people / draining situations where you need to energetically protect yourself
• Pastors , priests , anyone who does any kind of spiritual work or ritual work , healers and so on
• When facing opposition
• Public spaces / places where there is energy soup – shopping centres , public transport , crowds , concerts , football stadiums etc
• Cemeteries
• Hospitals

These are just a few situations where wrapping or head covering can be useful .

The material and fabric / colours you wrap with can also be symbolically and spiritually significant . Some people may choose colours that have a particular meaning for their faith or colours that correlate to a chakra colour they wish to strengthen or simply a colour that makes them feel happy . Many people will add additional symbols and meaning to their wraps for spiritual protection by adding a spiritual symbol to it , for example this could be a cross brooch , an ankh , a tree of life or anything that has spiritual significance to the individual .

In terms of fabric , the fabric itself can absorb the energy of the place where it was produced and the people who made it . For example if a fabric has been produced by sweat shop labour in poor working conditions the energy of that space may enter the fabric so a blessing can be carried out to cleanse that fabric or a fabric of unknown origin . If possible it is good to buy fabric from an established source . The intention of a fabric supplier and their work ethic / ethos is important .

If wrapping is a part of your culture , history or faith , wrapping can also spiritually connect you to your ancestors . Wrapping can be any form of head covering whether this is hats , scarves , turbans or veils . My grandmother wore turbans , hats and scarves as did my aunts so this is something I personally connect to in my own DNA . We have in our blood all the ancestors who were before us , their wisdom , talents , skills , tendencies , traits , so we have a huge amount of spiritual practice and energy in our DNA and our heritage . Connecting to your ancestors in this way can help you focus on what you might like to do or be drawn to in your life .

Wrapping protects you from negative energies so that you have more energy , time and mental space to spend on the things you love , such as meeting friends , personal projects , time with family and living joyfully .

I would like to say that wrapping is a visible reminder of spiritual protection . It starts with inner faith and conviction . If we believe we are divinely protected , then we are .

To draw a parallel , prayer beads are not a substitute for prayer but a tool which focuses and sharpens the mind on our prayer life . Beads add clarity !!

When we wrap our head , we wrap ourselves in awareness of what is going on outside our energy field as well as our what is happening within ourselves . This provides a healthy boundary between what is from you and what is within me , so that we do not absorb other peoples issues or energy . It is much easier to have clarity on that boundary when you are spiritually and physically wrapped .

Wisdom and access to a higher power enters and exits through the crown of our head .
